Asia mostly higher as Evergrande shares soar

Stock markets in Asia traded mostly with gains on Thursday as Chinese real estate giant Evergrande Group rebounded, surging over 18%. The company's Chairman Xu Jiayin sought to dispel fears of its collapse by stating it will "try its best to resume work and production." Over in the United States, the Federal Reserve decided to hold interest rates, but announced it could start tapering at its next meeting.

The S&P/ASX 200 increased by 0.90% at 4:41 am CET, while Hang Seng added 0.99% at the same time. The Kospi Composite was the only index with losses, down by 0.59% at 4:22 am CET.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite gained 0.45% at 4:41 am CET, and the Shenzhen Composite climbed by 0.70% at the same time. Stock markets in Japan are closed for a public holiday.

The dollar traded 0.10% higher compared to the yen, selling for 109.8980 at 4:44 am CET.
