US opens higher with jobs data, earnings in focus

Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Thursday after the newest update on job cuts showed they dropped by 7.5% in July. Initial jobless claims also declined. Meanwhile, Moderna Inc., Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, and Viacom CBS Inc. all reported annual rises in their second-quarter revenues. Traders will also keep an eye on income reports from American International Group (AIG) Inc., Dropbox Inc., Novavax Inc., and Virgin Galactic.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened 0.26% higher as Goldman Sachs Group Inc. advanced by 1.18%. The Nasdaq 100 progressed by 0.22%, with MercadoLibre Inc. surging by 13.32%. The S&P 500 went up by 0.24% as Federal Realty Investment Trust gained 4.56%.

The euro stood flat against the dollar at 9:24 am ET, selling for $1.18370.
