Shares in the Asia-Pacific region traded mostly lower on Monday, with the Nikkei 225 in Japan plummeting more than 3%, seemingly influenced by the last week's tumult on Wall Street. The stocks on the major United States benchmarks tumbled dragged by worries regarding inflation and prospects of the Federal Reserve raising the interest rates earlier than expected.

Meanwhile, the People's Bank of China (PBoC) decided to leave its key interest rates unaltered for the fourteenth consecutive month, as was expected by analysts.

Japan's Nikkei 225 dived 3.39% at 4:35 am CET, with the dollar down 0.15% versus the yen, going for 110.0555 at 4:55 am CET. The Australian S&P/ASX 200 decreased by 1.63% at the same time, while South Korea's Kospi Composite dipped 1.11% a minute later.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng surrendered 1.07% at 4:56 am CET, while, on the Chinese mainland, the Shanghai Composite moved up by 0.14% at 4:42 am CET. The Shenzhen Composite gained 0.83% at the same time.
