Wall Street opens higher after extended pause

Major stock markets in the United States started the week with major gains after the weekend break extended by the Memorial Day holiday.

The latest news revealed Moderna is about to file for full approval of its COVID-19 vaccine with the FDA, while Fed St. Louis President James Bullard noted in an interview tapering talks could begin soon. Later today, investors are expecting PMI and construction spending data as well as new earnings reports from Zoom and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

The Dow Jones jumped 0.79% or 267 points at the opening bell, as Chevron gained 2.51%. The Nasdaq 100 kicked off 0.57% higher, with Pinduoduo jumping 6.93%. The S&P 500 opened 0.64% in the green. Devon Energy was the top performer, climbing 11.75%. The euro stood flat against the dollar to trade for 1.22284.
