Wall Street opens higher with earnings in focus

The US markets started the trading session higher on Thursday as UnitedHealth Group, PepsiCo, and BlackRock Inc. reported an increase in revenue for the first quarter of the year. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order imposing sanctions against Russia "for actions by its government and intelligence services against US sovereignty and interests."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index opened the session up by 0.56%, or 204.05 points, at 9:30 am ET with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. as the top performer gaining 1.28%, while the S&P 500 rose 0.66% as Freeport-McMoRan Inc. soared by 1.82%. Both benchmarks hit fresh record highs minutes into the session. The Nasdaq 100 gained 1.01%, led by Nvidia Corp with a 3.51% rise at 9:32 am ET.

The euro stood unchanged versus the dollar, trading at 1.19704 at 9:28 am ET.
