French govt may relax measures in some regions

France could be loosening the measurements set in place to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus on a regional basis depending on the levels of transmission in different parts of the country, Health Minister Olivier Veran said on Monday.

Currently, the government is working on making the health pass obligatory indefinitely after November 15 on a national level. A possible move would be limiting the use of the health pass in the future for regions deemed safer. The matter will be debated this Wednesday in the Health Defense Council, according to the minister.

"When we are in a period of decline of an epidemic wave, and the virus circulates less, we respect this principle of proportionality and territorialization of measures," Veran said, explaining that the government should be able to confidently say that a measure is unnecessary before it is loosened.
