Porsche sets up joint venture for high-speed battery charging

Porsche AG Chief Executive Officer Oliver Blume (pictured) stated on Sunday that the company is setting up a joint venture with a German battery manufacturer Customcells to make new high-performance battery cells for electric vehicles.

According to him, the aim of the venture is to create batteries that can fully recharge within 15 minutes, thus bringing the charging time closer to traditional refueling methods. Furthermore, Blume stated that the new batteries, set to be installed in vehicles from 2024, will also increase the range by 100 kilometers, as Porsche pivots its future focus towards electromobility.

Porsche is the latest car manufacturer to up its electric vehicle research and production, with Daimler accelerating their plans to electrify all Mercedes models and General Motors increasing investments into the field to $35 billion.
