Gold hits highest level since January

Prices of precious metals rose on Tuesday with gold reaching the highest level since January 8.

Investors eyed safe-haven assets after data showed United States consumer confidence fell in May.

Shortly after reaching the four-an-a-half-month high of $1,899.75 per ounce, spot gold climbed 0.89% to sell for $1,897.89 per ounce at 2:38 pm ET. Silver gained 0.73% to go for $27.98 per ounce at 2:40 pm ET, platinum jumped 1.51% to $1,196.96 at the same time and palladium rose 1.50% to go for $2,776.81 per ounce at 2:41 pm ET.
