Ryanair CEO: Short flights to become norm in Europe by end of May

Monday, 17. May 2021 12:05

Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary predicted on Monday that short-distance flights within Europe will soon be normalized again due to the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines and the gradual relaxing of containment measures. "Short-haul foreign travel within Europe will become the norm again by about the end of May and into the middle of June," he told Sky News.

O'Leary said bookings for Ryanair trebled in the last six weeks from 500,000 bookings in the first week of April to 1,500,000 bookings last week. "People are now booking strongly for the beaches in June, July, August and September," he revealed, adding that, although there is still some near-term uncertainty surrounding new coronavirus variants, the air travel industry expects reopenings to continue across Europe.
