Ireland's Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said on Thursday that a legal case has been initiated by the European Commission against AstraZeneca over its failure to deliver coronavirus vaccine doses agreed with the bloc and that Ireland has joined the challenge.

"With regards to AstraZeneca, a legal case has been initiated by the Commission. Earlier this week, I have joined Ireland as one of the parties to that case, specifically around AstraZeneca’s complete failure to meet its delivery contractual agreements for April, May and June," Donnelly stated in the Irish parliament.

However, the Commission's spokesperson for health, Stefan de Keersmaecker, told RTE News that a decision to launch legal action against AstraZeneca "has not been taken at this point in time."
