Europe closes higher with pandemic recovery efforts in focus

Major European stock markets ended the trading session higher with the focus on pandemic recovery news. German courts ruled in favor of the European Union recovery fund, as France stated that domestic travel restrictions will be lifted in the first week of May. Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey also noted ways to effectively boost the recovery caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The DAX ended the session with an increase of 0.44%, with Bayer AG coming out on top with an increase of 3.40%. The FTSE 100 was up by 0.62%, helped by Smith & Nephew PLC with gains of 3.61%. The CAC 40 rose by 0.82% at the closing bell, Carrefour being the strongest performer rising 4.97%.

Both the euro and the pound were flat against the dollar with the currencies trading for 1.20359 and 1.39382 respectively at 5:34 pm CET.
