Asian stocks mostly lower as US-China tensions intensify

Markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded mostly lower on Friday as tensions between the United States and China intensified after Beijing passed the controversial Hong Kong national security legislation. The US and its allies condemned the move and US President Donald Trump noted he will make an announcement on his response to China's actions on Friday.

The Nikkei 225 declined 0.37% at 4:00 am CET. The dollar was down 0.22% against the yen to go for 107.4055 at 4:01 am CET.

Hong Kong's, the Hang Seng slid 0.35% at 4:01 am CET. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite decreased 0.17% at 3:46 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite rose 0.34% at 3:47 am CET.

South Korea's Kospi lost 0.33% at 4:03 am CET and the Australian S&P/ASX 200 dropped 1.15% at the same time.
