The split of DowDuPont Inc. will result in materials science unit Dow Inc., which also used to be called Dow Holdings Inc., replacing it in the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) stock index. S&P Dow Jones Indices said on Tuesday that the change would be implemented before the opening bell on April 2, when the spinoff company begins trading on the New York Stock Exchange. The operator said Dow Inc. would also be added to the S&P 500 at the same time, replacing Brighthouse Financial Inc.

Dow Inc. will have headquarters in Midland, Michigan. The remainder of the largest chemicals company in the world, which is also separating agriscience division Corteva Inc., will be called DuPont Inc. and classified as a specialty chemicals producer. It was created on August 31, 2017, in a merger of Dow Chemical Co. and DuPont Co.
