European shares close higher, CAC rallies 1%

Shares on European stock markets ended the session on Monday with gains as major averages pushed higher on optimism surrounding the global economic recovery from the pandemic.

HSBC announced it's raising bankers' bonuses on the improved outlook, while Goldman Sachs is reportedly set to hike salaries for its junior analysts as well. Meanwhile, the China Securities Regulatory Commission said over the weekend it wants closer cooperation with the United States on overseas IPOS.

The DAX rose 0.16% at the end of trading with Infineon leading the gains. The CAC 40 surged 0.95% as Axa leaped over 4% on the company's earnings results. The FTSE 100 jumped 0.70% in London as Melrose Industries soared nearly 5%. The euro was up 0.11% against the greenback at 5:40 pm CET, buying 1.18815.
