Biden picks Google critic to lead DoJ antitrust unit

United States President Joe Biden nominated on Tuesday lawyer Jonathan Kanter to lead the Department of Justice's (DoJ) Antitrust Division.

The White House announcement described Kanter as "a distinguished antitrust lawyer with over 20 years of experience" and a "leading advocate and expert in the effort to promote strong and meaningful antitrust enforcement and competition policy."

Kanter's own law firm has been reportedly involved in legal processes that called for tougher antitrust enforcement against Google. His potential appointment should be interpreted as another step by the Biden administration toward taking on the Big Tech companies, according to US media reports.
