Asian markets mixed, Nikkei jumps after GDP data

Asian markets traded mixed on Tuesday following the release of GDP figures for Japan. According to the latest update, Japan’s economy shrank at an annualized rate of 5.1% in the first quarter of 2021.

Meanwhile, minutes from the Reserve Bank of Australia’s May monetary policy meeting revealed the central bank is likely to maintain key interest rates at 0.1% until "2024 at the earliest."

The Nikkei 225 jumped 2.08% in Tokyo at 4:35 am CET. South Korea's Kospi Composite climbed 1.04% at 4:45 am CET. In China, the Shanghai Composite was flat as the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.54%. The Hang Seng rose 1.17% at the time. Meanwhile in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 was up 0.47%. The dollar declined 0.05% against the Japanese yen at 4:50 am CET, buying ¥109.176.
