US closes mostly flat ahead of Big Tech earnings

Wall Street stock markets closed mostly flat to lower on Tuesday ahead of tech giants' earnings reports release. S&P 500 hovered close to the flatline during intraday trading. The Conference Board also reported a big jump in consumer confidence with indicators beating analyst expectations.

Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that vaccinated Americans won't have to wear protective face masks when outdoors and in small groups. The decision is supposed to incentivize more people to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus and speed up the recovery process.

The Dow Jones closed with 0.01% above the flatline with Chevron growing by 1.16%. The S&P 500 also closed flat with 0.02% in the red, while the Nasdaq 100 lost 0.47%, both led by Cadence Design Systems plummeting by 7.96%. The euro traded around the flatline gaining 0.02% against the dollar exchanging for $1.20890 at 4:05 pm ET.
