Dow opens more than 200 pts higher after Fed calls

Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Thursday after the Federal Reserve decided to keep interest rates unchanged. Its Chair Jerome Powell also estimated the Evergrande Group's financial demise will not affect any country other than China. Traders remain vigilant of the latest report on the nation's services and manufacturing, which is to be released later in the day.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.65% or 222 points at the opening as Inc. grew by 3.14%. The Nasdaq 100 advanced by 0.39%, with Biogen Inc. going up by 2.41%. The S&P 500 expanded by 0.50% as Darden Restaurants Inc. increased by 6.01%.

The euro gained 0.31% against the dollar at 9:23 am ET to sell for $1.17242.
