Australian flagship carrier Qantas plans to resume international flights by Christmas, its CEO Alan Joyce (pictured) said on Thursday.

"We know there’s huge underlying demand. People don’t want another Christmas where they are isolated from their families, let alone internationally, but [also] in Australia," Joyce told CNBC and added the flights will resume if Australia lifts most of its COVID-19 restrictions by the beginning of December. "And, that by Christmas, we will see markets like Singapore, the UK, Japan and the US ... open up as well," he noted.

Qantas suspended all international flights in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
