6.2-magnitude earthquake hits Peru-Ecuador border

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake has hit the Peru-Ecuador border region at a depth of 49 kilometers, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported on Friday.

Witnesses insisted that the tremor lasted "for a long while," around 20 seconds, which is considered longer than usual shakes. Fortunately, no reports of injury or building damage have been reported.

The epicenter of the quake was located 24 kilometers north of the Peruvian city of Piura.
