Japanese Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura stated the government has proposed declaring the state of emergency in four more of the country's prefectures to curb the spread of the Delta strain of COVID-19.

Those four include three prefectures near Tokyo and one western of Osaka. Nishimura added the state of emergency in the capital city should be extended until August 31.

His remarks come shortly after Japan and Tokyo itself reported record rises in daily infections from COVID-19.
