United States major equity markets closed higher on Thursday despite an unexpected jump in jobless claims report released earlier in the day. US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo shrugged off the concerns saying it's not a job shortage, but rather a "skills gap".

Investors focused on tech stocks amid the ongoing strong earnings season with Salesforce jumping nearly 2.5% and Amazon and Facebook each gaining about 1% intraday.

The Dow closed 0.07% above the flatline with Salesforce rising by 2.55%, while the S&P 500 grew by 0.20% as Domino's Pizza soared 14.55%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 jumped 0.66% led by CSX Corporation gaining 3.48%. The euro lost 0.17% against the dollar selling for $1.17742 at 3:55 pm ET, while at the same time the British pound advanced by 0.39% exchanging hands for $1.27671.
