Restrictions on entering China that were introduced at the start of the coronavirus pandemic will be in place for at least another year, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday citing sources familiar with the matter.

The decision was made over concerns that the new COVID-19 variants could compromise the Winter Olympics in Beijing and the 20th party congress of the Chinese Communist Party, both scheduled for next year.

The border restrictions include issuing new visas largely to people who have received a Chinese-made coronavirus vaccine and enforcing a 14-day hotel quarantine upon arrival.
