Didi Chuxing Technology Co. announced on Monday that its self-driving technology arm DiDi Autonomous Driving has partnered with Guangzhou Automobile Group's (GAC) subsidiary GAC Aion New Energy Automobile to speed up the development and mass-production of fully self-driving electric vehicles (EV).

The two companies will jointly develop a self-driving car model based on new energy meant to be mass-produced commercially by focusing on innovation in the drive-by-wire system, self-driving sensors and system integration.

"DiDi will continue to increase investment in R&D in self-driving technology to make future transportation safer and more efficient," said Didi Autonomous Driving's Chief Executive Officer Zhang Bo. Last year, Didi launched a test autonomous cars taxi service in Shanghai and announced that it aims to operate 1 million self-driving vehicles by 2030.
