German police probe ‘Islamist link’ in bus blast

German authorities are said to be investigating the possibility of “Islamist” involvement in the last night’s Borussia Dortmund team bus explosion, local media reported on Wednesday. Sueddeutsche newspaper report stated the letter found on site claimed the blast was a response to German military involvement in the Syrian crisis.

According to the report, the letter blamed German authorities for participating in surveillance operations against the extremist organization Islamic State (ISIS). However, the police consider the possibility the letter was left to mislead the investigation.

The authorities have issued no official statement so far. However, the country’s federal public prosecutor, who is in charge of the investigation, is due to hold a press conference on the probe later in the day.
