US shares plunge at close amid debt ceiling crisis

Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States plunged on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping over 560 points, amid growing concerns prompted by the increase in US bond yields, as well as the stalemate regarding the Democrats' attempt to raise the federal debt limit.

The Dow Jones tumbled by 1.63%, or 569 points as the session came to a close as Microsoft dropped 3.62%. The Nasdaq 100 plummeted 2.86%, or 434 points at the same time led by Pinduoduo diving 7.60%. The S&P 500 plunged 2.04% at the closing bell with Applied Materials dropping 6.90%. The euro slid 0.08% compared to the dollar at 3:58 pm ET, changing hands at 1.16862.
