Brazil adds 80,609 virus cases, 2,468 deaths

In Brazil, 2,468 deaths were attributed to the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, marking a more than twofold increase in fatalities compared to the 827 registered the day before, data provided by the country's health ministry showed.

The figure brings the nation's total to 490,696. The country's caseload reached 17,533,221, as 80,609 more people tested positive for the virus, up from yesterday's 39,846.

During the same time period, the cumulative number of recoveries from the illness increased to a total of 15,944,646.
