The largest global pharmaceutical firms asked for a meeting at the White House as they want to discuss lowering drug prices, United States President Donald Trump said on Friday and noted the meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday.

Trump said that the companies are willing to cut prices and that they will present some proposals at the meeting. He added that in case a deal is made, his fourth executive order on favored nation treatment will not have to come into force. The executive order is being put on hold until August 24, Trump added.

The favored nations executive order was announced alongside three other executive orders which foresee a reduction in drug prices in the US. The order means that drug companies will have to charge the US the same price as the lowest price they give to another country.
