Europe opens higher with vaccine progress in focus

European markets opened in the green on Monday after Sanofi and GSK revealed that the interim Phase two trial results of their jointly developed coronavirus vaccine were optimistic. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom is reportedly looking to add new Irish Sea border checks on food products from October and Ryanair's full fiscal 2021 results showed an €815 million loss.

The DAX rose by 0.13% at 9:02 am CET as Deutsche Telekom led the gains, ticking 1.00% higher at 9:04 am CET. London's FTSE 100 was 0.24% up at 9:01 am CET as Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust grew 1.10% at the same time. The CAC 40 advanced 0.19% at 9:00 am CET with Carrefour gaining 1.03% at 9:03 am CET.

The euro was flat compared to the dollar at 9:07 am CET, going for 1.21447. The British pound was 0.20% up against the greenback, changing hands for 1.41173 a minute later.
