European markets start lower on corporate earnings

European stock markets started the Thursday trading session with losses as investor absorb a fresh set of earnings reports posted before the bell, including AXA, Deutsche Telekom, Barclays and Anglo American. Meanwhile, on the data front, the United Kingdom gross domestic product (GDP) numbers are also due for release later today.

The FTSE 100 was down 0.35% at the start of the session, with Anglo American the worst performer after posting its annual earnings.The DAX lost 0.94% at the opening bell, with Deutsche Telekom leading the losses. Meanwhile, the main French index CAC 40 was down 0.59% to begin in the negative territory, with ArcelorMittal flopping the most.

The euro was 0.16% lower against the dollar to go for 1.2270 at 9:02 am CET, while the pound dropped 0.25% versus the greenback to sell for 1.3884 at the same time.
