US opens flat to lower amid data, yield hike

Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States opened flat to lower on Monday, as the technology stocks declined, seemingly amid a rise in the benchmark ten-year US Treasury yield.

On the data front, new orders for manufactured durable goods in the US topped expectations and grew by 1.8% on a monthly basis in August.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was 0.08% higher as the session started, with Boeing gaining 1.59%. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 0.79% at the open, with Mercado Libre down by 2.89% a minute later. At the open, the S&P 500 declined by 0.22%. The euro surrendered 0.21% to the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling for 1.16691.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones advanced by more than 150 points, while the Nasdaq 100 tumbled deeper in the red, falling over 1.3% with Nvidia, Apple, and Microsoft leading the losses.
