New fines in Russia for Facebook, Twitter

The Moscow Magistrates' Court on Tuesday ruled to fine Facebook a total of 21 million rubles ($288,000) and Twitter 5 million rubles ($68,000) for neglecting to delete content banned in Russia.

The move follows similar recent fines and is seen as part of an ongoing crackdown on the internet, reflecting Moscow's desire for foreign internet firms to open substantive offices in the country and store Russian citizens' data domestically.
