Twitter closes NY, SF offices over Delta variant concerns

Twitter revealed in a statement to several media outlets that the company will require its employees in San Francisco and New York offices to work from home due to the outbreak of the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus.

The move comes just two weeks after the social networking giant started allowing workers to return to offices after over a year of working from home. "After careful consideration of the CDC's updated guidelines, and in light of current conditions, Twitter has made the decision to close our opened offices in New York and San Francisco as well as pause future office reopenings, effective immediately," the company told USA Today in a statement.

Back in March last year, the company advised its staff not to come into offices to work, if possible, saying that working remotely will be "strongly encouraged," before deciding to move a step further from previously advising work from home to mandating it in order to slow the spread of the virus.
