Alphabet Inc.'s Google-owned YouTube announced on Tuesday it has created a fund worth $100 million to pay the most popular content creators on its platform, Shorts.

The company said the fund is "just the first step" in building "a long-term monetization model for Shorts on YouTube" and attracting more active creators and users.

YouTube launched Shorts in September in a move perceived as an attempt to rival the video application TikTok.
