Russia accuses YouTube of censorship

Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) issued a statement on Saturday accusing YouTube of restricting Russian media, over the platform's decision to restrict the channel Russia Today on it.

According to the statement, the media watchdog noted that the restrictions "violate the key principles of free dissemination of information, unhindered access to it, and constitute an act of censorship against the Russian media." Furthermore, Roskomnadzor demanded the removal of all restrictions as soon as possible, and for the platform to explain the "reasons for their introduction."

Russia has already started an investigation into Google LLC over monopoly allegations put forward against YouTube, while the company's representatives testified in front of Russia's State Duma with Google agreeing to comply with its rulings.
