An undisclosed sum was paid by optoelectronics manufacturer Jenoptik AG to become the owner of Five Lakes Automation Llc from Michigan. The target company's software will be tied up with its laser processing segment, according to an announcement published on Tuesday.

The German company has opened a €14 million technology campus in Rochester Hills in the same American state in May. "The acquisition allows us to win new know-how around automated production and new customers because not only can we offer stand-alone machines now but complete process solutions from a single source," said Stefan Traeger, president and chief executive of Jenoptik.

Five Lakes, or FLA, was founded in 2013. The statement highlights it is specialized in the joining of complex metal components, particularly welding systems. The German investor eyes opportunities in integration of metal and plastic processing.
