S. Korea to make Google, Apple accept other payment systems

Tuesday, 31. August 2021 12:06

South Korea's National Assembly passed a bill on Tuesday requiring Google and Apple to accept other payment systems in their app stores.

The legislation, which amends the Telecommunications Business Act, is set to be signed into law by President Moon Jae-in soon and will ban app market operators from requiring the use of their in-app purchasing systems. South Korea will thus become the first country to adopt such a law.

Under the new law, companies that don't comply with the new rules will be issued fines of up to 3% of their revenue in the country.
