The United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is readying an investigation into Facebook Inc., the Financial Times reported on Friday.

The probe, which will be announced in the upcoming months, will reportedly focus on the tech giant's use of user data to ruin competitors in social media and online advertising. The British regulator, like its European Union counterpart, is planning to scrutinize Facebook's Marketplace platform and its status as a "gatekeeper," which allows the company to have a "strong incumbency advantage" over its rivals, FT said.

CMA previously announced investigations into Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc.'s Google LLC.
