British Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng (pictured) stated on Saturday that the United Kingdom is not facing an "immediate" threat related to gas supply shortages.

"The UK benefits from having a diverse range of gas supply sources, with sufficient capacity to more than meet demand. The UK's gas system continues to operate reliably and we do not expect supply emergencies this winter," Kwarteng said following a meeting with senior executives from the energy industry.

Previously, International Energy Agency head Fatih Birol asserted that gas prices may continue to grow for weeks.
