Skoda to halt output for a week over chip shortage

Volkswagen's Skoda Auto said on Thursday the carmaker would have to stop production at two of its plants in the Czech Republic due to the lack of semiconductor chips.

Skoda will halt the vehicle output during the last week of September, however, union chief Jaroslav Povsik noted the temporary work suspension would match with the state holiday that is taking place on September 27 and 28.

Commenting on the chip shortages, Skoda said it expects the issue will be solved by the end of 2021. "We expect the overall supply situation to ease by the end of the year," it concluded.
