Europe opens mixed as earnings season continues

Major European stock markets opened mixed on Tuesday as companies continued reporting their second-quarter earnings results. Ahead of the opening bell, BP plc, BMW AG, Standard Chartered plc and Societe Generale published their results.

Meanwhile on the coronavirus front, the number of weekly registered COVID-19 cases in the United Kingdom declined by 27% with ongoing full reopening in England taking place.

The CAC 40 rose 0.23% at the open, with Stellantis NV surging 3.84% ahead of its Q2 results. On the other hand, the DAX fell 0.22% with Infineon Tech AG sinking 4.09%. The FTSE 100 lost 0.07%, as Smiths Group plc plunged 3.66%. The euro gained 0.05% against the dollar to sell for 1.18759, while the pound increased by 0.16% to $1.39032 at 9:04 am CET.
