Volkswagen's revenue jumps 64% to €67.3B in Q2

Volkswagen said on Thursday its revenue in the second quarter of 2021 amounted to €67.3 billion, jumping 64% year on year.

Earnings before tax stood at €6.7 billion, improving from a loss before tax of €2 billion reported a year earlier. Earnings after tax reached €5 billion. The carmaker added its vehicle sales climbed 29% compared to the second quarter of 2020 to hit 2.3 billion units, while deliveries surged 35% to 2.5 billion units. The company also raised its outlook for operating return on sales by 0.5 percentage points to 6% to 7.5%.

"We’re keeping up our high pace, both operationally and strategically.," CEO Herbert Diess stated. "The premium segment performed especially well with double-digit returns, as did Financial Services. Our electric offensive is picking up momentum,' he added.
