Volkswagen Group announced on Monday that it will be ending the assembly of the Passat sedan in its Chattanooga factory in the United States.

According to the car manufacturer, the move was made as part of the plant's transformation to build future electric vehicles. However, Volkswagen noted it will be making a final limited edition of the Passat in 2022 in order to "celebrate the integral role of the Passat in the resurgence of Volkswagen in the United States."

Scott Keogh, President of Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. commented on the restructuring of the Chattanooga plant: "With the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport in high demand, and the North American production launch of the all-electric ID.4 SUV next year, our future in Chattanooga looks brighter than ever."
