Air France, Airbus to stand trial over Rio-Paris crash

Air France–KLM Group and Airbus SE will stand trial over the crash of a Rio de Janeiro to Paris flight in 2009 that killed all 228 passengers, a Paris court ruled on Wednesday.

Both companies are facing involuntary manslaughter charges as the crash was determined to be caused by a pilot error attributed to defective speed monitoring equipment in the Airbus plane and inadequate training on reacting to equipment malfunction provided by Air France to its pilots.

An earlier court ruling to drop the case against the two companies was overturned by the prosecutor. The AF447 flight became Air France's deadliest crash in history when the plane dove into the Atlantic Ocean on June 1, 2009.
