Shares on the major European stock market indexes extended gains on Friday, with the German DAX soaring almost 1% to reach its new all-time high, along with the French CAC 40, which climbed to the level it last stood at in November 2000.

The optimism was spurred by hopes of economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, as traders digested upbeat data from the euro area, but also the United States, and China.

The DAX surged 0.84% at 12:42 pm CET, minutes after having soared by 0.98%, while the CAC 40 jumped 0.29% at the same time. A minute later, the FTSE 100 was up by 0.60%. The euro increased by 0.13% versus the dollar, selling for 1.19839 at 12:45 pm CET, while the pound stood flat compared to the dollar, going for 1.37883 a minute later.
