European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen remarked on Wednesday the European Union and the United States shared "common concerns" and hence should "seek opportunities to work together beyond our respective borders" and "effectively" tackle global issues.

Speaking during US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to Brussels, von der Leyen said the "most immediate priority" was combating the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis that had emerged from it. She also praised the suspensions of tariffs Airbus SE and the Boeing Company imposed on each other and urged both sides to remove all the remaining restrictions.

Von der Leyen stressed the EU and the US must discuss "foreign policy and security issues," such as those concerning Russia and China. Earlier, Blinken emphasized his country would not force its allies to choose between Washington and Beijing.
