French President Emmanuel Macron in a phone call with his American counterpart Joe Biden proposed that the two states find a negotiated agreement in a long-standing conflict between aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus, sources familiar with the matter told CNBC on Wednesday.

Biden allegedly supported the attempt by promising to send relevant experts to follow up on the matter, but he refrained from predicting the outcome.

Commenting on the long-awaited move, senior vice president of European Affairs at the US Chamber of Commerce Marjorie Chorlins said "There's really nothing left but to reach a deal. The last administration made a good faith effort to resolve these issues but didn’t close the deal".
