UK sees benefits of decision to halt US sanctions

The United Kingdom said on Thursday its move to block sanctions to the United States, which is set to take effect on Friday, started to pay off after the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) ramped up tariffs on aircraft manufacturing parts and some wines coming from the European Union.

"The UK wasn't hit because we suspended tariffs and brought the US to the negotiating table," a spokesman for the UK government noted, adding it "shows we are making the right strategic decisions."

Meanwhile, Europe's largest aircraft manufacturer Airbus criticized Washington's decision to impose the additional tariffs, claiming it "is counterproductive in every way."
