Aerospace and defense company Airbus announced on Thursday that the German military (Bundeswehr) ordered 31 NH90 military helicopters for its shipborne operations.

The NH90 military helicopter meets NATO standards and is produced in two versions. It can be used either for tactical troop transport (TTH) or as a NATO frigate helicopter (NFH). In both cases, its main feature is the fully integrated mission system that can operate over land and sea, day and night.

Earlier, Bundeswehr ordered 18 NH89 helicopters and with this new contract, it proceeds further with the replacement of its Mk88A Sea Lynx fleet that has been in service since 1981. The announcement from Airbus comes after the German Bundestag approved €2.7 billion for the purchase of the helicopters that are due to be delivered by 2025.
