Europe closes in green on vaccine, EU relief news

Major indexes on the European stock markets closed higher as investors kept an eye on optimistic news coming from the United Kingdom and France. A vaccine made by the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca reportedly showed progress in trial. Meanwhile, hopeful news came from France, as the country's government claimed that the European Union's budget and plan for the economic recovery from the COVID-19 outbreak could arrive by the end of this week.

The DAX surged 1.84% at the closing bell, as MTU Aero Engines jumped 7.02%. Concurrently, in London, the FTSE 100 followed suit, soaring 1.83%, with IAG skyrocketing 10.72%. At the same time, the CAC 40 gained 2.03%, as Accor led the gains with a 6.94% increase.

The euro rose by 0.20% against the dollar, selling for $1.14222 at 5:35 pm CET, while the pound gained 0.42% versus the greenback, changing hands at $1.26054 a minute later.
